“A Heartwarming Story of Canine Companionship: A Blind Husky and His Unofficial Guide Dog Malamute”

Dogs share a special connection that transcends human boundaries, and this is exemplified in the heartwarming story of Sterling, a Siberian Husky who lost his sight due to glaucoma, and his loyal companion, Walker, an Alaskan Malamute. Despite his disability, Sterling has found renewed strength in his friendship with Walker, who serves as his unofficial guide dog, helping him navigate life with enthusiasm and perseverance. The owners of these two amazing dogs, Lillian and Martin McKee, have been privileged to witness the remarkable bond between Sterling and Walker, which has only grown stronger over time.

According to Lillian, both dogs were saved from Texas Sled Dog Rescue, albeit a year apart, while she was in Houston. She mentions that the boys share a strong bond and have been inseparable for quite some time. Furthermore, their similar age has only strengthened their relationship.

In June of 2018, Lillian and Martin noticed a cloudiness in their beloved dog Sterling’s eyes, which eventually led to a diagnosis of glaucoma. Although the news was challenging, Sterling remained strong throughout the process. Lillian recalls how he took it like a champ, and they even went hiking right after receiving the diagnosis. They promised Sterling that his life would not change, but Lillian was afraid that she wouldn’t be able to keep that promise as Sterling’s vision gradually faded. To delay the inevitable blindness that comes with canine glaucoma, they utilized RexSpecs – goggles specially designed for dogs to protect his eyes during their 18-month long battle. With Walker taking on the role of an unofficial guide dog and Lillian and Martin providing unwavering support, Sterling is still able to enjoy all the activities he loves. Although he has lost most of his vision, his spirit remains unbroken thanks to the love and companionship of his best friend Walker. Their story serves as a reminder of the incredible resilience of dogs in the face of adversity and the power of friendship. Sterling, a Siberian husky, and Walker, an Alaskan Malamute, share a special bond and are the best of friends.

Back in June of 2018, Sterling received the news that he had been diagnosed with canine glaucoma. Unfortunately, this diagnosis led to him losing his ability to see.

Fortunately, he was accompanied by Walker and his loving human parents Lillian and Martin throughout his journey.

To safeguard his eyesight, they purchased unique goggles for their furry friend.

Accompanied by Walker, his loyal companion, and accompanied by his parents, Sterling is able to enjoy all the activities he adores.
